Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What should I expect from therapy?
After the phone consultation, we’ll schedule a day and time for us to have our weekly therapy sessions.
Prior to our first session, I’ll send you some paperwork to fill out.
During our first session, we may review that paperwork together and discuss your goals for therapy.
Each session thereafter, you’ll be…
provided with a space to process your thoughts and emotions
provided with feedback
learning coping skills
collaboratively exploring solutions to your problems
receiving encouragement, support, and validation
How long is therapy?
This all depends on each individual’s therapeutic goals and is determined on a case by case basis by the client, the therapist, the client’s health insurance, and/or the client’s employee assistance program (EAP).
For the first few months of therapy, it may be appropriate to attend therapy at least once a week for 45 to 60 minutes. Some people may choose to take a more intensive approach to therapy and may attend twice a week for a total of 120 minutes while others may attend once a week for a total of 90 minutes.
As for how many months of therapy it will take to resolve some of your mental health concerns, once again, that all depends. Engaging in cognitive behavioral therapy for a few months may be enough to see some improvements. But again, this isn’t the case for everyone. Some people could start to see some improvements in their day to day lives after just a week or two while others could take much longer than just a few months to see any significant changes take place in their lives.
Now just because you experience “some” improvements doesn’t mean you’ve gotten all there is to get out of therapy. You may’ve been experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, irritability, stress, burnout and so much more throughout a great portion of your life.
So if you need support for longer than a few months, don’t worry, I’d be honored to embark on this healing journey with you for as long as you need.
What about confidentiality?
Nearly everything we talk about in therapy is strictly confidential. That means that most of what we discuss stays between me and you. However, there are some limitations to confidentiality.
It is important to note that I cannot keep mention of suicidal intentions, homicidal intentions, or anything regarding child or elder abuse confidential.
It is also noteworthy to mention that, if you choose to use your health insurance benefits to cover all, or a portion, of your payment responsibility in therapy, then your health insurance provider(s) may request access to notes and documents completed throughout the therapeutic process.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I accept Optum, Oxford, Oscar, United Healthcare, UMR, Cigna, and Aetna.
How much will each therapy session cost?
If you do not have any of the aforementioned health insurances, the fee for each 45 minute individual therapy session is $150.
How can I get started with therapy?
By signing up for a free 30 minute phone consultation.
